Page 2712 4 May 51. Removed S. Bldg., room 3, east side, 2.60-5.50 m. s. of n. wall. Moderately loose soil and fair number rough stones averaging fist size but up to foot size. 1/10 bucket tiles which I am placing on east wall at 5.50 m. s. of n. wall. Part of pre-Roman lamp including nozzle F 1777 and glass frag. F 1778. From sieve comes about 1/8 bucket sherds and bronze F 1779, F 1942. F1777- F1779 F1891, F1942

tack. No other finds. This stratum is all fill antedating construction of room.

Bldg., room 5, east side, 2.60 - 5.50 m. s. of n. wall, p. 2687-2, darkish brown loose soil moderately amount small rough stones not larger than egg size; about 1/2 bucket sherds, about 1/6 bucket tiles which I am placing just north of those from 2687-1 in same area. From sieve comes about 1/1 bucket sherds and bronze nail F 1785. This stratum is all fill. 2 coins F 1780-81, bone spindle whorl F 1782 and bronze nail F 1783 near east wall - down to level of bottom of first course of ashlars. No other finds save 9 small tile frags which I am throwing out. See Film 153-2. Rebuilding north wall in vicinity and a little further west. Removed late 4th century A.D. wall over stylobate of SE Bldg. - s. spina stylobate. See Film 154-155. and over north end of w. stylobate. See Film 154.

Page 2720 7 & 8 May 51. Removed S. Bldg., room 1, east side, 1.50-5.90 m. s. of n. wall, averaging about 2711-2(a). Very loose soil of varying color with many stones - averaging about foot size with a few up to bucket size. 8 tile frags. From here came also F 1784,85,1786. Am placing tiles with shards. See Film 155-5. Removed also same stratum 2711-2(a), 00-1.50 m. s. of n. wall, 3 tile frags. No other finds. See Film 155-5. No other finds. 2687-3. fairly loose which I am placing in shard bag and 1/2 bucket tiles, which I am throwing out. Nearly difference in stratum from 00-1.50 to that from 1.50-5.90. Removed room 5, east side, 2.60-5.50 m. s. of n. wall 2687-3, fairly loose reddish brown soil with moderate amount of stones averaging fist size but some up to foot size, a little larger, much like 2703-5 save in color of the soil. About 1 bucket shards. About 1/2 bucket of tiles which I am throwing out. About 1 bucket shards in shard bag. From sieve SAH F 1787 and F 1788 and 5 iron frags. placed in box in shard bags. same 1/5 bucket shards.

About 1/3 bucket tiles which I am cleaning to be stored. Nearly 1/2 bucket sherds. One nozzle pre-Roman lamp F 1789. Iron blade F 1790. Removed from sieve 2 handfuls of sherds only. Find now in wall of trench at 5.90 s. of n. wall at bottom of trench F 1791, a coin F 1791. e. side, 1.50-5.90 m. s. of n. wall, 2711-2(b) about the same as 2711-2(a) but possibly a little harder - no real difference. About 1/5 bucket shards. One figurine in shard bag. One pot handle with incised character F 1792. One coin F 1795. From sieve comes 1/6 bucket shards. Removed same area 00-1.50 s. of n. wall 2711-2(b) same as 2711-2(a) handful of shards & one small tile frag; and an additional handful from sieve placed in shard bag. No other finds.

Bldg., room 5, east side, p. 2687-5, 2.60-5.50 s. of n. wall, trench but with few up to foot size - fewer stones averaging fist size s. of early wall across n. of this wall. From wall, rough stones, Moderately loose reddish soil. No tiles. About 1/5 bucket shards handful from sieve comes handful shards only. No other finds. See Film 155-14. F 1882
