KALORIZIKI, TOMB 32 (Lot 87)

NB III, pp. 18, 22

See Section on Trial Pits

November 8, 1935The cutting in bed-rock which we at first regarded as an unusual dromos, now seems to be the cutting of plunderers. We dig on in what we still regard as the chamber, finding two small pieces of human bones at ca. 1.00 m., and an early geometric sherd at ••• It seems that a considerable part of the tomb has been plundered.

November 9Drop the digging of Tomb 32 temporarily, to devote all our attention to clearing dromoi.

This tomb seems to have been very badly plundered; the chief reason for continuing with it is the hope of finding more of the architectural fragment mentioned in "Trial Pits", and determining whether or not it came from this tomb, and whether it really is a capital, as first supposed, or the gable top of a stele.

November 13Resume digging Tomb 32.

November 15Abandon Tomb 32. The digging went to a great depth through badly disturbed earth. There was danger of collapse if the digging were to proceed, and the prospects of finding anything were very slight.
