LATE CYPRIOTE III DECORATED WARE.

The clay of this category is in general rather porous and gritty, the paint often thin and washy and, of course, matt. The proportion of better made examples is small [handwritten: Many are indicated in the catalogue by the comment "signum fabrice"] and these provide virtually a link between the technique of some of the off-shade Mycenean bowls and the average LC IIIB Decorated ware technique, which may therefore be, as I have suggested, ultimately inspired by the Mycenean ware. In this sense Gjerstad's term "Debased Levantine-Helladic" would be descriptive. However, for other reasons Furumark is right in rejecting it. [handwritten: A more detailed discussion of Furumark's position is given on p. __ cf. MP 14 F, pumps to nutrient in pumish type LH III C but Mon Ross ...]
