Area F

Tr. 6 lay in an area disturbed in late medieval(?) times by the building of a house. In a stratum, beginning about 25 cm. below the floor of this house several courses of a broad wall were found which Daniel believed may have belonged to the geometric period; and near this, to the north, another wall. The date of these walls remains in doubt since no foundation trenches were found nor any good ancient floor levels preserved. The sherds from the stratum in which was found the southernmost of the two walls were: 85% coarse (pithoi, PWM II and h-m) 1 sherd Bl.-on-Red I (?) 1 " Bichrome III 9 " Wh P II-III 4 " BS bucchero (Iron Age) 1 " WS II 1 " BR 1 " Fused temper 1 " h-m(?) burnished BAM Tr. 6 S 0.65 to 0.85

Below this, in the slightly redder earth on which the wall rested, to bedrock were found: 90% plain (pithoi, h-m, 78 PWM II) G19 4 sherds BS bucchero (2 definitely Iron Age) intrusive? 4 " bowl ware 2 " wash " 1 " WS I 1 " BR 3 " R.P. BAM Tr. 6 S 0.85 to rock

[bracketed: Listed as LC IIIA by D. AJA 45 (1941) 272 Appears to go as well, or better, with LC II C ]

The only quite pure B.A. level to be isolated anywhere (with the exception of Tomb 2 at bed rock) was Pit #4 in the south part of the trench at bed rock, containing 4 coarse sherds of LC II-III type. Pit #2, running up against the north south wall, contained only non-descript coarse ware. Pit #1, between the two walls contained: 80% plain (pithoi, h-m) 2 sherds wash 1 " light burnished 1 " Bamboula ware (?) 1 " RP 1 " Wh P I 1 " Plain white

Tomb 2 and Pit #4 represent the bronze Age level, as elsewhere on the Bamboula, at bed rock. There was then probably a disuse of the site until the middle of the Geometric period with which the walls appear to be associated.
