AREA E (Revised Stratification) House II
The stratification of House II is also fragmentary and its interpretation hampered by contradictions in the presentation of sherd material which Daniel left unrevised. It may be about contemporary with House I.
A. There are no criteria for the original construction of the house, for the earliest and second floors (in E.II.6 at 7.46 and 7.42 respectively) [handwritten: had no sherds].
B. The following sherds appear to be associated with the use of the second floor or the laying of the third (at 7.30):
1 sherd RL III 1 " BR 1 " Monochrome
C. In addition to (B) the use of the House is dated by the following: 1. Accumulation over the 7.30 floor (E.II.6)
33% Plain 2 sherds WS I 5 " BR 7 " Wash 1 " painted 2 " thick creamy slip 10 " RP
2. The following sherds must be taken as a unit dating the construction and early use of the plaster floor at 7.25 (most of the sherds were built into the floor but through a gap in the records it is not possible to separate out a few which were not):
45% Plain 1 sherd RL III 2 " Wash 6 " RW RP 5 " WS II 2 " Myc III A with applied white paint (joins) 2 " Myc III wash
3. A well was found in the east corner of E.II.6, the upper part of which was disturbed in archaic times. P2711 (pithos neck) is from this level. It is not clear which of the floors this well originally belonged to. Its contents, aside from intrusive elements, may be considered as a whole and belong to the period represented by the 7.30 and 7.25 floors. In addition to sherds the following were found:
P2710 (BR bull); P2828 (Myc.IIIA:2 f-m jar); M892; St90; St899; P2711 [handwritten: (upper)] ca/90% pithos and plain ware 2 sherds RP Sherd 634 1 " Wash 1 " WS I 2 " Monochrome 1 " Burnished slip SH 753 [handwritten: sh] 10 " BR (most of one bowl with applied white; fr. of bull vase) 1 " Painted Sh 635
