south sides of the inner court (13-17) are geometric as is the mosaic in room [handwritten: (52)] two [handwritten: the] last mosaic. However, in [handwritten: this] this [handwritten: of this room,] [handwritten: (63)] there was [handwritten: on the east side] in front of the middle door on its west side, [handwritten: in the west wall, there was] inscription. Of this inscription, when first uncovered, there remained only enough letters [handwritten: of the north end] to show that there were at least [handwritten: an] lines. These few letters have since disappeared.

The mosaic on the east side (49) of the inner court (13- 17) has in the southern part, four approximately square panels and in the northern part, probably, a large oblong one. The southernmost panel is the best preserved. [handwritten: 7] The general scheme of this panel is a square. Against each side of this square and half way between either end, there is a rectangular frame. In each north and south frame is a bird of different species; in each east and west frame, a fish, likewise of different species. In the middle of the panel, is a larger rectangular frame with a bird of a species unlike that either to the north or south. The general scheme of the xxxxx adjacent panel to the north is an interior circle tangent to a xxx square. In each approximately triangular corner of this panel, there are four birds, each of a different species and unlike any of the birds in the panel to the south. There, are, moreover, four circular frames and one approximately square within the circle of the panel. The tesserae inside these frames were missing when the mosaic was uncovered. By analogy with the panel to the south, one may reasonably assume that there was in each frame, a fish, each of a different [handwritten: Between the four frames on the sides and the large frame in the middle are four green crosses. {hw: Also] There is, also, a large cruciform which extends diagonally from the four corners of the panels.}
