Handwritten: πέρι ἠν ὁ οὐρανὸς περιδινεῖται προγενέστεραν οὖσαν

two manuscripts here preserve the uncontracted form-and that of Clement of Alexandria who speaks of [handwritten: τὰς ἠλιακὰς] [handwritten: περιδινήσεις.] 125 in Now/the line before that refering to Christ as Phoebus, there is the phrase [handwritten: ὡς λουτρὰ Χαρισθέαμενος, Χαρισθέαμενος] 126 was often used with a religious or holy connotation. Since Christ is almost certainly mentioned in the line below, it is reasonable to assume that [handwritten: λουτρὰ] refers to baptism and the whole clause to the gift of baptism to the world. Chrysostomus more explicitly says, [handwritten: Ἐδωδὲ γὰρ ἡμᾶς φαει]

Th?e [illegible] the bath of the resurrec- 128 tion there refered to derives from the New Testament and was 129 mentioned in both the rite of baptism and that of the blessing of the waters. 130 Christ as the sun-god was, also, refered to in both these two rites, Nor is the plural of [handwritten: λουτρόν, λουτρὰ], at variance with this conclusion, for in a Greek inscription in Rome 132 [handwritten: λουτρὰ] is a generic name for baptism.

Handwritten: in the baptismal prayer, Εὐλογητὸς εἶ Κύριε, Christ is ὁ ἥλιος τῆς δικαιοσύνης and χαρισάμενος ἡμῖν τοῖς ἀναβίοις τὴν μακαρίαν καθαρείαν ἐν τῷ ἁγίῳ ὕδατι τούτῳ.
