doorways brought one up to the aisle. Each [handwritten: exedra] room, with the exception of [handwritten: exedra] room 1 (counting from east to west), communicated with one alley, always the one to the east of it, through a small doorway at the east end of the corridor. There is no apparent evidence that there was any other way of entering these alleys.

The conjectural restoration of the South Building belongs to another chapter but suffice it to say it is almost certain that the interior colonnade of each [handwritten: exedra] room supported a clear story and a gabled room over the center in terracotta roof tiles. Doubtless a tiled roof sloped down from the epistyle of the colonnade to the aisle walls; and a similar roof from the north wall, probably at the same height, to the epistyle of the portico colonnade.

A coat of lime plaster appears to have covered the masonry, including the stone columns in both the interior and exterior colonnades.

This in brief completes a general description of the building as we know it approximately to have been.
