Dear Roger,

I was most pleased to learn in your letter of 31 January that Professor Dyson has approved a grant of $750 for the final drawings for the Kourion complex mosaics. I will initiate the work next month after our classes end and I finally have some free time.

I am in the process of applying to the American Philosophical Society for a grant to cover the costs of a conservator to reclean the significant coins, to make casts of them for study and to mend up any lamps that can be used in dating the floors, as well as some travel expenses and room/board while in Episkopi for three weeks.

What I plan to do is to assemble the coins and lamp fragments that can be used for dating the floors and have the conservator work on them as needed. I will afterwards photograph the crucial material for the publication. I will spend time at the Eustolios complex checking my descriptions of the mosaics and of the layout of the building for missing floors, doorways, etc. I will also check the new plans for accuracy and take additional photographs to complete my coverage of the floors and various details. With this done, I will be able to complete my manuscript and have all the plans, drawings and photographs that I need for the publication.

To support this work I would appreciate it if you would write a letter of recommendation in support of my application to the American Philosophical Society. The form is enclosed along with my current curriculum vitae and a short article on my other research activities in Cyprus for your information.
