for dhoukanes or threshing sledges in the nineteenth and earlier twentieth centuries (and possibly earlier) were encountered. Mr. Fox continued his study of the dhoukani blade industry assisted by Ms. Sarah T. Stewart^19 and his ethnographic interviews with elderly former athkiakadhes or men who once made and repaired the dhoukanes. Mr. Pearlman acted once again as interpreter and co-investigator in this research. Mr. Fox completed his study of the lithic tools and debitage from the Aceramic Neolithic site of Kritou Marottou-Ais Yiorkis (80-E-46) and other prehistoric sites in the area. The replication of prehistoric chipped stone tools and historic dhoukani blades by Mr. Fox from the different chert sources in the CPSP study zone will assist him and Ms. Stewart in determining the relationships between tool types and materials over time.
Professor Roger H. King^20 carried on his investigation of the pedology and geomorphology of the CPSP study zone with particular emphasis on the Ezousas drainage. The primary goal of his research is to collect various kinds of environmental data relating to the pedology, hydrology, geomorphology and paleoclimate of the study zone in order to help determine the nature and extent that environmental factors may have had on the establishment of and changes in the observed patterns of settlement and exploitation over time. In conjunction with Professor King's collection of samples from clay beds in the region which may have been used for pottery production, Ms. Sørensen and the author have selected samples of Cypro-Archaic pottery collected by the CPSP from different parts of the Ezousas drainage for trace element analysis by neutron activation. The same method will be used for the clay samples. The purpose of these studies is to identify local centers of ceramic production and to thereby establish economic relationships and lines of communication between the different levels of the Cypro-Archaic period settlement hierarchy
