David Rupp
December 11, 1982Dear David:
About the other matters in your letter of December 1.
I think it would be well if you can come to Philadelphia for the AIA meetings at the end of this month to come prepared to take up with me the following questions which you raise so that I can get ahead with dealing with them. Possibly you could stay on a day or so for the purpose rather than trying to sandwich in a day during your April visits.
Unsatisfactory xeroxes of notebooks:
I think it would be a good idea for you to bring down all of your xeroxes so that I can determine what the problem actually is and arrange to reproduce the notebooks better if possible. I have no way of knowing which they are or which you need. Are they Pete Daniel's notebooks? Or Fales? In the case of Pete's the problem has been, although his records are excellent, that he wrote in light blue ink, which does not reproduce at all well in xerox. The pages have to be microfilmed and then xeroxed to get good results, as I discovered in the case of pages wanted by David Soren.
Phot. archives
As near as I can figure out from the phot. lists in your file I supplied you with 97 prints of the mosaics. It would seem that this would be exhaustive. The negatives are all that you could see here. We have no set of prints (that is, complete set) available. If you wish to see the negs. please let me know well in advance since they are all in the Museum's negative room and it takes time to get them out.
General account by B. H. Hill:
I have never come across any general account of the mosaics or palace by B. H. Hill and it seems very unlikely that he would ever have actually written one. There are in the files a short account by Fales and a longer one by Daniel. I will have these xeroxed and send them to you.
------
I am sorry you have been having such a time with the records etc. It has been my intention all along, however, to facilitate your work. I am sorry if it seems not to have turned out that way. I am puzzled with the problems you raise and will be glad to straighten them out, if possible.
Sincerely,
G. Roger Edwards
