1.Make a cast of the pithos to attempt to fit it with our fragments on Cyprus. This would be done by our professional staff and would not harm the piece in any way. We would assume responsibility for this.

2.Take a tiny fabric sample from it for laboratory analysis to determine if it is the same fabric as our examples.

These tests were agreed upon and encouraged by Dr. Vassos Karageorghis of the Cyprus Department of Antiquities and we all hope that you might be agreeable provided we took our fabric sample from an unseen part of the pithos.

Finally, I would like to inquire about the possibility of having our results published through the University of Pennsylvania. We have had several publication proposals from other sources, including Dartmouth and the University of Missouri. We could easily publish through these sources, but I think that so much of our work has been tied to the work of McFadden, Daniel, and others connected with Penn that you might be interested in the project. Would it be possible to talk aobut this at the Boston meetings? Both Diana and I will be there.

I am sorry to write so many requests but we are trying very hard to coordinate a veritable sea of archaeological material and so much of it is linked directly with Penn. I would need to know about permission for the cast and fabric sample from the pithos as soon as possible because we will only have your pithos until the middle of December.

We will be reporting on the Kourion dig (three reports) in Boston on the morning of the 20th. I hope you can come.

Sincerely,
