Dear Roger:
It has probably filtered down to you that in my dotage I have returned to Bamboula. I started work on it during the summer while in Jerusalem, for I had left everything concerned with Bamboula in Israel. Now that I'm a relatively free man, I'm at it again, having started when I finished the Norton Lecture tour for AIA.
Thus far, I've been through all the photographs that I have, marking them according to current designations of the areas and houses, so I'm ready to sort and to do another reading of the text with the photographs. I find, however, that there are a number of photos of which I never received contact prints, and to judge from the titles in the list that I have, they seem of sufficient importance to warrant asking that contact prints be made and sent to me so that I'll have a complete set when revising the ms. I can then pick out the ones I believe are useful for illustrations and have enlargements made of them.
The illustrations of which I have no prints are the following: 1937 - Roll N, Exp. 1 & 2; Roll Q, Exp. 9-10, 12; RollS, Exp. 10-12; Roll T; Exp. 1-12; 1938 - Roll J, Exp. 11; Rolls Q, R, S. T, U, V, W, X, Exp, 1-12 on each; Roll Y, Exp. 1-8; 1941 - all photos taken by VG. There seem to be 3 rolls with exposures 1-33, 1-29 and 1-43 respectively, and I have no prints of 1941.
One other question that occurs to me at the moment - where are the Bamboula field notebooks now? Philadelphia or Kourion house? There will probably be occasions on which I'll have to refer back to the notebooks. I imagine that before I'm ready to submit the ms. I'll probably have to read it again on the Bamboula, but I can worry about that later. With my colleague David Soren beginning work at the Apollo Sanctuary this summer, that should not be too difficult and I hope it can be arranged.
I'll be in touch as work progresses. No doubt there will be other queries. Meanwhile, all the best.
Sincerely,
