July 29, 1978Dear Jack:
As you may have heard I have received a large part of Saul Weinberg's manuscript on the Architecture of Bamboula. He sent me also a copy of the letter he had written to you asking for elucidation about the numbering system of Area E. I write merely to express the opinion that it is better to let bygones be bygones in the interest of getting the material published. I hope you may feel that way. It is quite a respectable manuscript, I think.
I haven't heard from you and Linda in a long time. You may be pleased to know that Bamboula and Kaloriziki have not been forgotten here. I spent a solid two months typing up and processing over 1000 catalogue cards for the objects this summer, using the entries in your volumes for the descriptions. I should have done it long ago except that the size of the job had me a bit inhibited! I was somewhat puzzled in the end. I typed every entry in your books which had a UM catalogue no. but a final check showed numerous missing numbers. I don't suppose at this date you would have any useful lists which would help me to check out the missing UM numbers, would you?
Best greetings -
