Dear Miss Richards:

I do not know if there will be a chance to discuss Mr. Last's mss. with you personally so I write you this letter about the various matters which occur to me.

I have gone over the galley completely against the typescript and have marked my comments in pencil on the galley.

As I told you I was much disturbed by the changes in placement which the printer made in plates and tables. I should like to request that the sequence be that of Mr. Last's mss., with one minor modification. The sequence to be as follows:

Maps 1 and 2 to be placed at the beginning (facing pages, preferably). This will make it easier for the reader to follow the text, I think.

Text (pages 140-173) with footnotes (200-204) interspersed, as they are now in galley.

Figures to be inserted at pertinent points in the text, as they are. Modifications of present placements are suggested below.

Appendices I (174) II (176-178) III (179-181) IV (182-185)

Tables A (186-188) B (189-190) C (191-195) D (196) E (196) F (197-198)

Note: I feel that insertion of tables in the text is a big mistake as it interrupts and confuses the reader in following the text.

Plates I - XII All should be placed together in sequence at the end of the article, not here and there in the text.
