6 June 1975Dear Roger,

Thank you so much for sending me Joe's waterworks publication, which I found on return from Cyprus, where, as you will see from the enclosure, I was working away at the Basilica. I think one of Joe's irrigation channels traversing the "Mint" may have supplied my Baptistery.

By the way we have secured quite a nice aerial photograph (from a kite!) of the said "Mint". Is anyone interested in that building? The little coins that turned up there are scattered around the Basilica also.

I would like to have one more digging season, inter alia to link our two areas and reveal what I suspect is a small atrium outside the N door of the narthex. That would be in October next year.

Meanwhile, I shall be producing some sort of a preliminary report on my operations for Dumbarton Oaks Papers. For the final report, I hope this summer to draft a short account of George McFadden's work with the help of the two notebooks of his which you handed over to me; but it is difficult to interpret these without the photographs, all of which I believe were lost on the London blitz.

A pupil of Tony Cutler's at Penn. State, Susan young by name, who has been a great help to me in my two last Basilica campaigns, is awaiting approval of "The Christian Floor Mosaics of Cyprus" as her topic for a doctoral dissertation. If it is she may call on you about the Basilica are not so smart, probably found at the Basilica and the rest later, but if because one is earlier and the rest later, but if Susan becomes an expert in these things I shall ask her to write the relative part of my final report.
