April 25, 1977Mr. Demetrios Michaelides, Accademia Britannica, Via A. Gramsci, 61, Roma, C0197 Italia

Dear Mr. Michaelides:

Thank you for your letter of 3 March 1977 concerning the question of the publication of the mosaics At Kourion. I apologize for the long delay in answering you but it was unavoidable.

As you know I have undertaken the responsibility of publishing the mosaics and architecture of the Annex and Baths of Eustolios and the House of the Achilles mosaic for the University of Pennsylvania. I am certain that you will agree that, the publication of the Mosaic floors along with their architectural and archaeological context is proper method. I can empathize with your frustration concerning the length of time that has past since the excavation of this material.

My proposed study will concentrate on the above mentioned Kourion material. However, the interpretation of the material from Cyprus and the eastern Mediterranean area as well as any unpublished material to which I am given access. As I understand it, your study is a stylistic analysis of the mosaics of the entire island of Cyprus. Therefore our two studies will overlap in some areas and not in others.

I understand your reluctance to send Dr. Edwards an illustrated copy of your manuscript. However, unless I am able to see it, at some point I will not have enough information in order to make an informed decision on Dr. Karageorghis' suggested collaboration. I hope to be on Cyprus from approximate June 12th to July 12th and then in Greece from approximately July 12th to 23rd. Would it be possible for you to meet me either in Cyprus or Greece to discuss this matter in person with your manuscript in hand? If such a meeting cannot be arranged may I suggest then that you send your manuscript to
