TRUSTEES FOR HARVARD UNIVERSITY The Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Collection 1703 Thirty-second Street, Washington 7, D.C.
26 January 1959Dear [handwritten: Rodney]
I had hoped to see you tonight at the opening of the Gordion show at the Walters. But as I have a bad cold Elektra is trying to persuade me it would be anti-social to attend. So I am writing you three little requests I was going to make; separately, as they may concern others to whom you would like to pass them on.
First, I see your museum is selling replicas of that pretty bronze handle (?) in the form of a deer, or doe or what-have-you, which fell to you in the division of the finds from the Apollo sanctuary. On one of those days when your Trustees, or whoever it is decides these things, is in a generous mood please ask them to let us have a couple: one for Curium House where we have started organising a public museum in the east apotheke, and the other to go with our share of the [handwritten: six] better finds in the Cyprus Museum. If any of your other Curium [handwritten: ✓] have been reproduced in this way, the same would apply to them.
We leave here on Feb. 6 and leave the country on the 11th after a brief visit to Boston etc where I have to give my last lecture in the Fogg. I fear we shall not be in Philadelphia again, not this trip should I say, for we hope there will be another.
I plan to spend a Sunday morning in Ankara on my way back to Nicosia, on 1st March, to see the Citadel, trusting that it will not be under snow. Who could help me? and what is the name of the hostelry where Joe finds it so convenient to stay?
