January 2, 1957Dear Jack:
Yrs. of Dec. 20.
Ellen says she sent off the Menander photos. Surface, I presume, since there were quite a number.
I have put in your order for prints of the griffin protome with T. Kidder and C. Dosker; the latter will airmail them when they are ready. She says she has supplied Dietrich with prints of it recently; maybe he is reviewing the same book?
T. Kidder has had your Pam. and Kal. plates on his list for months. I guess you asked him yourself, and I also put it on his list of agenda along with a lot of other things in September. I spoke to him about it again this morning and asked for a date when he could promise them. He says he has the job well in mind and would like very much to get it out of the way, but that he will have to review the photographic situation before he can let us know when they can be done. I will let you know what transpires, and hound them some more, if necessary. If it's any comfort to you, we all have to wait and wait in our present photographic set-up, and I may say that in my recent experience the British and Berlin Museums aren't much prompter than we.
T 2017 & T 2018: I presume you mean that you would like them to be numbered 54-41-154 and 54-41-150. 54-23-154 and 150, of course, are other, Young figurines.
D. Crownover completed an excellent job of face-lifting on the Cypriote exhibit in honor of the AIA Christmas meetings, which were held here this year. We had hoped to have a Gordion loan exhibit, but that didn't materialize, so Cyprus was reelected. We made some substitutions, including the Bamboula bird-krater, which is very handsome, and pieces from Kel. 39: pottery tripod, bronze tripod, bronze bowl. All very elegant.
Ellen hasn't actually abandoned us yet. She is giving up the editorship in March, is then going out to Gordion, and when she returns from that next fall she is going to Bryn Mawr for a year more of graduate work. He hope very much that when she is through with that we can have her back as a departmental assistant, on the analogy of those in the
