26 October 1956Dear Jack:

The permit for the loan of the sherds, graffiti, etc., from Curium which were brought over for your study purposes, has now expired. It will accordingly be necessary either to ask Peter for an extension of the permit or to return them to the Cyprus Museum. If you will advise me of your views, I will try to arrange accordingly.

It has occurred to me in connection with the sherds (not the graffiti) that if there were strong enough reason, it might be desirable from the Museum's point of view to see if Peter would be willing to consider alloting them to us or making a division of them. I do not hold out any particular hopes of this, since there seems to be nothing written down saying that this is still possible. But, in any case, you might let us know what you think. That is to say, whether or not any of the sherds supplement in any important way the categories of pots already assigned to us.

I note that you have them all neatly arranged by categories in the cabinet. Should it be decided to return them to Cyprus now, it would seem very desirable to send them boxed or bagged according to these categories so that they could be similarly stored in Nicosia or Curium, as the case may be.

Yours,
