17th November, 1956

Handwritten: Dear Roger,

I am writing this separate letter to deal with the questions touching on the division of the Curium finds which you raised in yours of November 6.

Referring to my letter of 28th August, 1954, I see that in selecting certain items for the Cyprus Museum, including graffiti G.69 and G.71, we specifically excluded those that formed part of tomb groups allotted to the University Museum. So these two handles are already yours.

In my reading of it that proviso presupposes that the balance of the division should be redressed wherever the original allocations are upset. So I accept your suggestion that you substitute for G.69 and G.71 in the consignment you are returning two other graffiti from among those allotted to the University Museum. We have some notes on these and, unless they too prove to belong to tomb groups, I suggest you send us G.4 and G.28.

Since the Metropolitan has handed over to you the Cesnola Pithos fragment which joins P.1053 this last may stay with it in the University Museum as agreed in my demi-official letter to you dated 28th August, 1954 (penultimate para.). We should be glad to have the cast made from the united fragments in exchange.

It is not for us to approve, but we would like to have confirmation in due course of the exchange of the fragments sh.547 from Bamboula tomb 26 with the British Museum, if it comes off. You will be interested to know that [handwritten: a] negotiations about the "window crater" have not yet broken down.

Handwritten: Sincerely,
