matters to the Supplementary Notes, I have no doubt altered his plans but, of course, even in these sections the material is largely his and I have used his designations and formulations wherever possible. If you think it advisable I can make an index of stratification references to each house, perhaps combining it with a similar architectural index made by you.

As for the status of the other sections I [handwritten: a]m to do: the description of the tombs (both Bamboula and Kaloriziki) has already been written up, but not a general discussion of the tombs. At the [handwritten: ^]institute I wrote the first draft of the catalog of finds, pottery, that is, for both Bam and Kal (I think [handwritten: at least] [handwritten: around] 2000 pots). The small finds, of which there are not too many, I hope to do in the same format in the next month or two. Then will remain the problem of getting the catalog in final shape with publication numbers, and of writing a chapter on stylistic conclusions, including absolute dating. I'm hoping to get some student help on some of the routine matters, but this is far from certain. I'm teaching two courses next term so that my time is definitely limited until the summer. We are making definite plans to sail September 5, so I hope my part can be done by then.

Also at the [handwritten: ^]institute I wrote an article on the seal impressions from Bamboula which I think are terrifically important and worthy of a separate detailed publication. This is scheduled tentatively for AJA together with some material E.Porada is putting together.

Sorry not to have been able to see you in Chicago. Both of us were rather tired and worn by Christmas time so we spent a week in Charleston, S.C. instead, enjoying beautiful houses and balmy weather. Hope you're feeling much better by now.

Very best wishes for a happy and prosperous 1956,

Handwritten: Jack

P.S. (1) In addition I am sending you a) Christophis' drawing of my excavation in Area E for you to add to the main plan. b) " " of Tomb 40 (excavated 1954) for same purpose. c) " " plan and section of the cellar in Area D. (2) I have filled in cross references to pages in my text except where they refer to chapters not yet written and where they refer to matters in Daniel's ms (page ref. given) which I assume you will treat in your chapters.
