May 9, 1956Mr. Vassos Karageorghis Cyprus Museum Nicosia, Cyprus.

Dear Vassos,

Many thanks for your note and the information it contained. Now here is the information you requested. AJA 45 (1941) 267 Fig.11 is B1129 (final publication number); P1423 is the field number. The clay is light gray shading to orange-buff at the surface which is very slightly lustrous in patches but definitely does not have slip. The clay has some fine, mostly light sand but its temper consists largely of fairly uniform and large crushed bits of gray to black, occasionally reddish stone. These have a maximum length of 2 mm. and are mostly smaller than that. The paint is slightly lustrous orange-brown to dark gray-brown, with a few red-brown spots. This pot belongs to a fairly numerous class of coarse ware pots with ground-stone or ground-sherd temper. Its height, as restored is 33.8 cm; diam. 25.7 cm. It was found in the so-called cellar of Area D. Now I wonder if I may trouble you for a little information that is lacking from my catalogue cards. I had hoped to get Christophis to find me these data, in the belief that he would go to Nicosia to draw pots. But since the pots have been sent to him instead, I'll have to depend on your kindness for data on material not sent to him. Mostly it concerns measurements or description of paint, which can be very brief indeed, as merely "dark gray" for example.

Congratulations on your Pierides article in AJA. It was very interesting and your attributions convincing.

Thanks also for the photos of S3 and S 102!
