April 17th 1956Dr J.L. Benson, The University Museum, 33rd and Spruce Streets, Philadelphia 4, Pa., U.S.A.

Dear Dr. Benson,

We have one fragment of the spirally fluted columns from Soli here in Stockholm. I include two photographs. The height of the whole piece is 32 [handwritten: c.]. The upper shaft tablet: Diam. 34, Height 3.5. Upper diam. of the shaft 29.5 cm., lower diam. 31.0 cm. The grooves were 20-21 in number, are 2.6 - 2.8 cm. wide and 1.0 cm. deep. The ridges between the grooves are 0.6 cm. wide. The material is a rather dark grey-blue marble.

It will be very interesting to see if the columns from the theatre in Kurion are of the same kind.

Sincerely yours
