employ him as indicated above between his visits to Athens and Gordion and after his return from the latter, I hope to arrange for him to receive salary at the rate of £233 or thereabouts (I understand he now receives £216). The exact figure and the incremental scale would depend on the current revision of salaries.

(8) I have authorised J.S. Last to investigate the possibility of leasing to the gardener Michali the land and trees that go with Curium House excepting the immediate surroundings of the house on terms which would provide for the proper maintenance by him of the latter.

(9) I am also considering with J.S. Last the possibility of giving a contract to the Expedition's cook to supply meals to those who are authorised to use the house in future.

(10) I enclose official receipts for the funds you have deposited to cover:

(a) cost of trays supplied to the Expedition,

(b) half cost of repairs to the bungalow,

(c) £100 toward half cost (still unknown) of current land acquisitions at Bamboula and Curium. If this proves to be more than half the cost the balance will be refunded.

(11) If you deposit in the Antiquities Fund whatever the expedition can spare for supplementary work at the Basilica, I will do what I can next spring to bring the site to a state in which a provisional report on the building can be prepared. If in this process anything of special interest comes to light, I shall report it to your Museum in case they should wish to consider raising funds for its further exploration.
