June 3, 1954Dear Dr. Edwards:

This morning I had a phone call from Mr. Peter Abrams, President of Williams, Brown and Earle in reply to my letter to him of June 1. He was very sorry about the trouble you had with the drawing paper and said their error was in guaranteeing the accuracy of the paper. He said that the measurements on the paper are accurate when first printed but that they could never promise accuracy because of the problems of changing temperatures and differences in climates. He suggested that special arrangements could be made at another time to use a special material like a glass fabric which would not be subject to expansion and contraction. He also offered to help us at any time with any technical problems that might arise in connection with our expeditions.

I asked Dr. Kidder if it sounded plausible for the paper to get out of whack because of climate differences and he said it was very possible. He also said Kenffel and Esser paper was the best of that type made. So I guess there is nothing we can do about the faulty paper.

If you want us to see about making up drawing paper on special fabric please let me know. I assume you made other arrangements for your work at Curium this year.

Sincerely,
