Dikaios has been working for the last two weeks at Sotira, as planned. He has concentrated on getting skeletal material to go with the settlement, and has found, I believe, eleven graves, a number near the bottom of the slope of the hill and are near what are apparently house remains but outside the walls, unlike Khirokitia. He has done some more digging on the top of the hill in the interspaces between the houses there to see if he overlooked burials there, but up to yesterday he had found no more. He proposes giving Philadelphia one complete burial (there are no objects with it) presumably for exhibition purposes. I felt damp about this and did not encourage. Anyhow, he wants to send 2km all the skeletal material to Philadelphia for L. Angel to study for hip. I presume this can be arranged without difficulty. He finishes at Sotira on the 4th, goes to Mas next week (west coast, Late Cypriote, Mycenaean gibi, with huge, ultra Cyclopean walls like Ankoni), and then back to Ankoni for digging in June-July.
As to Jack, he has not changed his mind about coming to Philadelphia, so long as stipend is assured. I have given definite promise that funds will be available.
Had word from Macteld from Istanbul. Sugar Bayran is immobilizing her this week but presently she will be off to Gordion, Ankara, Lycia, emerging again and perhaps coming here in July.
Mabel hasn't come yet. Nor conscience won't let her until the end of June, so I have suggested that she come and incorporate her proposal with the arrival with the do my Stillwells. She came all over the place in Athens, the latest of the dating to the year of the Stillwells, but I am hoping that Mabel will un-lurch me. Mabel seems to be being fertile all over, shutting in the end of Roman one-handled miscellaneous water jars. They very often have graffito numerals inscribed beneath the handles, and these she takes to refer to specific years in her action era, whatever that is. She takes them to have been exported from Syria or Egypt. We have at least one such horse as a drawing card for her. We also have an inscribed public weight which she finds juicy. I have can or will stay, but I have no assurance that she can.
Joe is busy putting together the plates of the waterworks publication. Do I also assume correctly that Apollo, Bamboula, Kaloriziki, et al, would also be in Monographs?
I assume you would think of putting this out as a Monograph. Do I also make it this summer, though, I understand.
Your remarks about Reuben and photographic prospects lead me to think of getting our publication printing done here (Cyprus Museum photographer, maybe) or in Accra. Seems preferable to sweating out bottle-necks next year, though perhaps rather costly.
I will try to get color shots of the sceptre for our collection. Should be good to use if one ever lectured on the Curium expedition.
George's article from Ellen yesterday. I think maybe you got reprint of Charlstone has finished Bamboula drawings and is almost done with Kaloriziki. I will have him three weeks' uninterrupted for Apollo before Dick arrives and should be able to get down Mr. Hill's ideas on paper then.
End of page. Love to Dinsa, poor girl, with no mama to tell her what all is happening to her!
