Curium 26 Feb 54
Dear Rodney:
Yours of 19 feb. to hand.
Your proposed arrangement for getting Dick's passage and stipend paid in pounds is certainly very ingenious, and I am all for it. I hope it works. I will, since their answer is not yet received, also see what I can do with BEA etc. in Nicosia; that can do no harm.
You and Fro will have received my own suggestion, which is, of course, not as good as yours. If your arrangement for the purchase business both pp. 4-5 of my letter of the 23rd. I refer to note C, Dick and my recommendation for the purchase of the coin work out, we will be doing very well by the dollar situation.
I did receive Hannah's answer to my first letter. In it, she didn't actually agree to doing the whole coin job. She will perhaps by the time this arrives have shown you my letter of the 24th, in which I suggest that she act as organizer of the coin publication, writing up whatever she wishes and feels she can. I am perfectly herself, and farming out such parts of it as she does not feel able to cope with to suitable other people. I am perfectly happy to leave all arrangements in her hands, and shall be willing to leave all arrangements in her hands, and shall be plenty of money (if we get the pounds out) to provide her a stipend. As you will have seen from my financial report, there should be more efficient for you to make the financial arrangement with her. So go ahead, and let me know.
The Chase Bank account is less by $500. (that is, it is still the amount stated in my letter of the 23rd) than the statement you had of Jan. 27. I am drawing on it in increasingly lesser amounts in the hopes of pounds coming from the stocks. If your BEA arrangement for Dick works and Dick pays over the money expended above the amount of his own passage see that this excess is deposited in the Chase passage, please see that this excess is deposited in the Chase account without delay. (precautionary: I had literally to wait months last fall for action on a request for money to get through Mrs. Gloria and the Treasurer's office to the bank.)
I think, in a possibility raised in the course of Helene's visit. I shan't attempt a longer letter today. You will be interested. Chicago, it seems, would be interested in exchanging some of its material, quite possibly even Alishar, publications in Alishar, Kalorizki, Bamboula and Chnefalsch-Richter pieces for the but not promising, until we would be particularly interested in Cypriote. I spoke for us saying that we would be dealt with, much more than other purchased pieces which would be available? Possibly there are other purchased pieces which would moment?
