hopes that the Bollingen will come thru for Jack. If we do have, according to the first alternative, only $4,000 available for him and Hannah in 1954-55, that will only just about do, I should think, leaving practically nothing over for expenses incidental to their work. One will indeed need a grant to stretch out such a balance.

As to the movie camera, I am inclined to take that there film, if we think we could probably get together quite a nice film, if we thought enough about it. A general Phrygian movie, or a general Hittite movie including Gordion as a part in each interesting for propaganda bad idea, and would probably be more interesting to the one site. I wish I knew purposes than one devoted entirely to the one site. Perhaps more about the technical aspects of taking films. Perhaps go to some movies and take notes.

I hope Machteld does come to Cyprus. I'd be glad to have her here.

John S. came yesterday and is busy attacking the mountain of sherds. It madadesn't look so hopeless, now we are getting our teeth into it. I have told him what you wrote. 1955-56 would be the year, it seems. It is good of you to go into the possibilities for him. Perhaps by the time 1955 rolls around other possibilities will occur to us as well. There will be another baby in May, so that will mean four of them to be supported. I don't know what his resources are, but perhaps a part-time teaching job would be more acceptable than a fellowship or grant.

The Nicosia BEA*BOAC*CA office said they had heard from TWA about Stillwell passages, but TWA hadn't made it clear what they were to collect, so they were writing for clarification. So probably I will be hearing something about it soon.

Very sorry to hear about Mr. Crosby. That is a sad gap in our old friends.

The Adventures of Filby have a familiar ring! Much sympathy!
