Dear Rodney:

Thank you for yours of the 11th. I am glad to hear that the stillwell matter is so satisfactorily settled, my cable thus being answered. I will merely sit tight then until I receive a bill from TWA for the balance of the passages.

I will tell Dikaios to go ahead with his plans for excavation in May at Sotira, whether or not there is a separate fund for it in Philadelphia. I suspect there is not, or you would have mentioned it.

I will endeavor to restrain Dikaios in the matter of the size of the Sotira publication. The size he proposes for it, 220 Khirokitia font pages and ca. 75 plates, would seem to fit into the Monograph series, according to what you report. This size, however, represents a publication proportionately as full, apparently, as the Khirokitia volume. Am I to tell him that he must treat Sotira as the number less fully than Khirokitia, or don't you care so long as the bounds of Monograph possibilities? I shall assume you mean the former, but should be glad of a specific ruling before I press the point.

As to the sale of Hesperia, it turns out that Supplement VIII does not exist in the set. Christophis made out the original list of books, which actually reads 2 copies of same, but it turns out that he was actually listing 2 reprints from it, a natural mistake since the covers do say Supplement VIII. Vols. I-XXI and the Index then (L. Shoe's valuation, presumably the Herr Doktor gets do exist, however, minus $172.50, minus $12.50?). These seems to be a very good price, indeed, if I have to pay for packing materials for ca. 15 to 20 separate packages of 3 kilos and postage too myself. Or do I charge him for these? Those may well be appreciable amounts in this inflated land. I have yet to find a shop in Limassol which even supplies wrapping paper, weird though it seems!

I enclose a check for the Oriental Club dues. Thank you for paying them. At some point you might let me know what you would like from me by way of rental for the new house. Probably you have an idea by now what the extra expenses exclusive of rent will amount to and can judge. Don't go bending over backwards: let me carry my share. presumably I also owe you something for crating and moving; let me know and I will disgorge. I think I am up to date with you as far as 30 Nov 53.

I have been communicating with Virginia about Ayios Hermogenes. She hopes to visit us, and I should particularly like when she does come to go over the remaining unpublished material there with her and see what we can plan. She tells me she has written you sending the list of lists, photographs, plans, etc., which were left at the Museum in 1946. I would send them here if you do? I suppose it is not find these for us and send them here if you do? I suppose it is not impossible that George extracted them from the Museum at some point and perhaps took them out to Villanova. I think it would be a good thing in any case, if sister Caroline were persuaded to let someone go through George's things there to see if there is any Curium material which we need. Could do?
