EPISKOPI LIMASSOL CYPRUS
12 March 1955Dear Roger:
Hitherto I have plagued Ellen with my MSS &c about Water Supply but I don't know if she is still in Philadelphia so I send the enclosed drawings to you with a list thereof. I am afraid that various adjustments should, perhaps, be made in the order of placing and numbering of Figures and in the references to them in the Text and Tables i.e., if they must be numbered and placed in the order in which reference is made to them in the Text See numbers underlined in red on List. The reason for all this is that I have added some figures which I did not think I would have time to work up. I prefer to leave it to you to decide which figures to include; scale of reproduction and whether they appear in the text or at the end. (The page and line refs. are given on the list in case you want to enliven the text by putting some figures in it).
From the specimens sent me by Ellen it appears that letters and numbers on the drawings, and the captions, are all put in by the printer so I have left my letters and numbers in pencil to be erased when the printer puts his in. The captions are on the attached list (F) subject to your views as to their content; e.g., they might not consider all the references necessary).
Perhaps my pencil shading on the back of the drawings will not photograph (though it works with sun-prints). It can be erased easily and printers screens substituted if necessary.
Amendments to the Text of MSS, if not already completed beyond redemption, are: Page 9 line 9: Insert "(Fig. 3)" ___ "(Fig 10)" or "(Fig 7)" (see list F) 17 para c: "however" to end of para 11 line 5: either delete from "This distribution-box cuts across the earliest pipe." ___ and substitute "The top of the rock-cut trench carrying the later floor of the box and of the rock-cut trench carrying the later pipes from the box towards the Stadium. The earliest pipe continues XXXX for a few meters beyond the box and then disappears. It reappears at the stadium but it has not been traced at Apollo. That does not necessarily imply that Apollo was not served by the earliest pipe - which may have bifurcated a little further on towards the south of the box at a point which has not been traced." OR append the substituted matter in a note numbered 2a (or 3, altering 3 to 4) with a reference to this note in the text.
List F.
I have retained sunprints of all the drawings on
PHOTOS: I shall send you separately a better print of Plate III 9 and I hope a better one of VII 26; also one of the slipper bath which could be either a tailpiece or No X 40 and the Fountain House making a tailpiece.
News of a personal nature will be reserved for my letter accompanying the photos - in a day or two.
