October 8, 1953Dear Roger:
I have been delaying replying to yours of the 24 pending conversation with Mr. Ewing but I think I now have most of the answers.
1. Mr. Ewing will certainly get out instructions to Panyotis about our retaining there anything we want.
2. Mr. Ewing seems extremely anxious to get rid of the live stock (dogs and horses) as soon as possible, hence I wouldn't think it worth while to gamble on the pups.
3. Certainly I would add to the final account of these extraordinary expenses like maintenance of the animals; George's obligations on wages and so forth.
4. I believe you will have to add the $600 for the mosaic project to the bill to the estate because this was appropriated for a specific object as if it were a purchase.
5. Certainly anything purchased out of the Curium Excavations Account is Museum property because all money going into that account was a contribution by George to the expedition through the University.
6. Any of George's personal property which you want will be paid for by a gift from the estate over and above the specified bequest. Therefore the value of this material will not be deducted from the specific bequest.
7. We simply cannot help you with records to clear up ownership on the property. The only records we have are of George's financial contributions.
8. Certainly everything you need to maintain the grounds should be acquired and turned over to the Cyprus Museum.
9. I don't know about the stocks but I think that they will eventually be turned over to us here for sale or holding, whichever we decide.
10. I think you had better carry the insurance on the cars there since it would take us to long to get all the papers cleared for insurance here. Just put on whatever you think desirable and pay for it out of Curium expenses. Furthermore I don't see how we can insure them when we don't yet have title to them.
I am sure you have heard from Rodney now since his return to Kabul. He grouses a lot but I still think he is having an exciting time. Be sure and let us know if you are interested in Rose Cottage. Best of luck to the party out there.
Best wishes,
