CURIUM EXCAVATIONS EPISKOPI, LIMASSOL CYPRUS
17 Sep 1955
Dear Mrs. Harrison:
I am writing primarily to let you know that I have arrived in Episkopi and am available on the spot, in case I can be of any assistance to you.
We have opened up the house again and are beginning to pick up the traces. I hope we will indeed be able to complete George's work here in the year ahead. I have good hopes of it at this point.
You asked me before I left to find out for you the name of the oldest workman here, since you felt you would like to do something for him. His name is Christos Gregoriou. He is the foreman, pottery mender and general excavation technician.
Mr. Hill told me when I was in Athens that he had heard from you that some funds or bonds or something of the sort had been found which you thought were intended for the members of George's staff here. If this is so, I should be glad to have confirmation of this, if you feel at liberty to tell me.
One point has arisen - possibly Mr. Hill has already taken it up with you - which it seems reasonable to bring to the attention of the executors. This concerns the 10% raise in pay which George gave the members of the staff, beginning, I believe, in March, 1952. As I understand it, George gave the raise, but arranged to keep this 10% and set it aside to accumulate for them, with the understanding that they would receive the total accumulation whenever they left his service. I should be glad to know whether or not George made specific provision for this in some way. If not, perhaps the executors will be willing to make some arrangement. We, of course, undertake to carry on the 10% arrangement with them from the time of George's death until we leave here.
With best greetings to you -
Sincerely,
