EPISKOPI LIMASSOL CYPRUS
17 June 1953
Handwritten: Cunliffe
Dear Fro:
Thank you for your two letters. For many of us Episkopi will never be quite the place that it was when we had George's company.
The statement you ask for is being prepared. As you probably know, Mr Hill spent some time here, dealing with the situation. Now, from Athens, among other operations, he is checking accounts and inventories. In the circumstances it seems best to send him the statement for scrutiny before transmission to you. Much of the required information seems to be available.
I managed to get away from here for two or three days with the Old Paphos Expedition and with Peter Megaw on a Byzantine church site in Paphos. The change of atmosphere has been good for me and I have resumed work at Curium so as to wind up my Water-Supply investigation before serious work starts in September. I shall not do any fresh excavation, only clean up, levelling, photographing and drawing.
I should have answered your letters sooner but it seemed that Mr Hill and Roger might be coming here about now. (I now understand that they will not be coming).
Please don't hesitate to call on me whenever you think I may be able to help: I am only too glad to do so.
It is very kind of you to ask if there is anything you can do to help me out. If I should think of anything I shall certainly let you know.
Yours sincerely,

P.S. I find that I have omitted to refer to the financial position. Mr Hill transferred to a special account, under my control, £500, of which there now remains a balance of £244. This should last until the end of July. There is a balance of about £1100 in the main Curium Excavations current account here under the control of Mr Hill, who will refresh my account as necessary.
