7 June 1953Dear Roger,
Your letter of 5 June arrived yesterday. I answer on one or two points forthwith.
Megaw's request has been returned by the Limassol Commissioner at Peter's. (It proved unnecessary to draw the full £100 authorized). Account. The £80 advanced by the Limassol Commissioner at Peter's has been returned by Joe Last out of his No.2 Account (It proved unnecessary to draw the full £100 authorized).
Joe estimates that the funds in his No.2 Account will last until about the end of July. We can talk about replenishing it for August-early September when you are here next week. This will be done of course by remitting dollars or pounds to the Ottoman Bank, Limassol, for deposit to the credit of J.S.Last, Esq.
Authorization for you to draw on the Curium Excavation account will no doubt anticipate your arrival in Limassol. Meanwhile I have the cheque-book here with 17 blanks (value 3/7cp in revenue stamps) still to be used. I will hand it to you next week - after drawing any cheques you may wish, up to £66/-/-.
My expenses in Cyprus were met out of Excavation account. For visas, airways tickets and telegrams I drew £145 from my NY bank account. It would be convenient for me if this sum were sent directly to the Corn Exchange Bank Trust Co., Grand Central Branch, 1 East 42nd Street, New York.
In referring to the gifts George intended should be made to long-time employees of the Expedition, you name Christophis, Christofo, Christophis, and Savvi. These three named Christophis, Christo, Savvi and Mustafa, but 27 1943 were actually Christo, the gardener-groom, would, I am sure, be instead of 1943, as would also Andreas, the houseboy have been included if the paper had been written in 1952 unless George helped him when he turned farmer last year.
Joe writes me that the Consul found that after all he must take physical possession of the goods we stowed in the two hall cupboards. So you may not have the responsibility for distributing the clothing thought of. Mrs Harriss from Christo-phis, but should have them in a day or two, with the detailed inventories there was not time to prepare before I came away.
I think it a good idea to have Christophis spend a little time up here. George seems too have intended to give him a trip to Greece to join one of the special excursions some planning, and of the Cypriote-Greek travel agency organized in vacation season. So I am sure he is pleased if he is brought by the Expedition. I don't think, however, that I can find time to do much about the matter before you come, but if I can I will.
It will be a great pleasure to see you here. Sincerely [handwritten: signature]
