Dr. B. H. Hill, April 29, 1953, continued

I wonder if Joe Last will be willing to take charge after you leave or until we can get somebody else out there? Certainly, I know we can't hold up either you or Rodney, and yet I feel we owe it to George to see Curium properly published and eventually turned over to the Department of Antiquities in good shape. In the meantime, I don't believe we will have enough money to do excavation. I think any work like that should be stopped until we know where we are going at least.

Of course I realize how difficult it is for you all there to make any real disposition until you know the terms of the will, but I am unable to get those out of the legal bottleneck. In any case, we will try our best to act upon your recommendations, and wish you best of luck. Please convey my deepest sympathy to Mrs. Harrison. This has all been more of a shrock to me than I can say because I really got very fond of George during the last four or five years. It all seems to me doubly tragic because, from the account, it sounds as if there was quite a long period where he might have been rescued except for the delay in communication between Episkopi and Limassol but, of course, this means nothing now.

Please let me know if there is anything more I can do.

Best wishes,

Froelich Rainey Director
