Dear G.R. [bracketed inserted: [1953?]] Ack. Enclosed a (summons?) for J.L.B.; found in in P.K. 14 - also letter desired by Merkel. As I met J. Cook in the street here I am sending hers by his safe hand (I hope). Don't suppose there will be any trouble about arranging exchange; but expect it may be almost forever before anything happens. This is largely Ruben's fault: if he could have had the pictures ready before you left here objects could have been picked, necessary decree secured, & perhaps I could have taken ours home with me. But I never really thought R. would come through in time. - Everything O.K. at Gordion. But still think south affair belongs to gate; and suspect red walls continuing (almost) sistery gate later addition. But think more needs to be exposed before we can know. Suspect Phocas's Body will have to come out like a tooth. - New bridge over Scaranjas by tonnes of Ny length complete. Carrossable. Hope it lasts through the winter Brought up skeletons to Muzaffer. Jemal seems behaving; quite a thatch of new hair. Voice of Nejdin changing; squeaks & roars. Ahmet Bulbash now married to Hoja's daughter Muhsin gets 2 weeks to marry daughter of Omer Bey. Inscription very nice; how do you explain the fact? Brought Hayrettin up to Ankara for operation. Hope it works Raji still hopes to visit Cyprus; doesn't know when. Nuri the rascal apparently enthroned. Still sitting in Bedestan. Nejetti sick. I have no doubt from overwork. Will let you know final results from USA. Best to Chophix. Roy.
