Dear Deke:-
I'm sorry for the delay in answering your letter about having the mosaic drawn by Christofis this summer. I will see what can be done and I will keep the matter in mind. What scale do you want it to be drawn to? I suggest you write Joe as I am leaving on Monday. Actually Christofi has been very busy and has quite a back logue of work but by the time Joe hears from you he may be able to find time for the mosaic. I was very interested to hear that the object the Ktisis is holding is a foot rule. Have you seen Stillwells publication of the theater at Corinth? He appears to have misunderstood your views about the Curium theater in thinking that the arena-theater here was turned from a theater into an arena as it was in Corinth during the 3rd century, probably in anticipation of a visit of Caracalla (p.96). We have found another bathing establishment at the entrance of the bluff. It belongs probably to the Antonine period and is somewhat larger and better preserved than the one at your end. Some of the marble revetment is still [handwritten: ] in situ. The mosaics are as good as any we have found to date with small tessarae and figured central panels. One is of Achilles at the court of king Lykomedes. The other, more fragmentary, is of the kidnapping of Ganymedes by the eagle of Zeus. This one is surrounded by a magnificent floral border. I will send you some photos later on.
Yours as ever,
