January 4, 1952Mr. George McFadden Curium Excavations Episkopi, Limassol, Cyprus

Dear George:

Mr. Madeira is getting all steamed up about our junket to the Middle East. He urges I write at once to tell you that we are now joined by Mr. and Mrs. Sam Eckert and Mrs. Davis. This makes 7 of us, i.e., three double rooms and a single (Mrs. Davis). Of course if you can't put us all up we can leave somebody in Limassol, but I wonder if we could impress Joe Last and his house for this visitation? I have played up Cyprus as the most pleasant and colorful place on our itinerary and it looks as if we will be traveling around Cyprus between March 8th and 13th. I think it would be wonderful if you could arrange to rent a couple of cars and accompany us around the island? The idea is that if all the Middle East blows up we can still work on Cyprus. Also, do you think you could find passage on a good boat from Limassol to Beirut on the 12th, 13th or 14th and send a message over to Beirut reserving hotel rooms for the party? I can't tell you how much enthusiasm is developing in this party over their trip to the Middle East but I have some misgivings about this kind of Cook's tour. Fortunately they are all pleasant people and will traveled.

I just have your letter of the 18th with the $2000 check entered to the account in the Ottoman Bank, [handwritten: it] closed. We will have [handwritten: it] Limassol and I hope this has not been delayed too long while we were all off on Christmas Vacation. Also, Rodney has the Dikaios report which [handwritten: I] have not yet seen. Thanks for the photos. Everything is going very well here and certainly I look forward to seeing you in March.

Best wishes,

Froelich Rainey Director
