The food budget amounts to 5s. + 5s per person per day. The budget does not includes milk, cheese, crackers or coca cola, or salad oil. These are extra. Your diet comes to 24s. a week more than the weekly ration. This is not entered into the books. I keep Savvis book as follows. I multiply the number of people of the expedition on any day by 5, and then add the 7 daily totals obtained in this way. This gives me the weekly food budget. If Savvi has paid more on food, I credit this to the budget account. I pay all it is less. I debit this to the budget account. If his expenses, however, irrespective of whether he has exceeded the budget or not. No debit account on the budget, however, should be allowed to grow too large. At present there is a credit on the budget account.

Savvis account shows that you owe the expedition [handwritten: 18-0-0] I have told Christo and Savvi that the house should never be left without a guard. At night, however, when Saul Weinberg is actually on the place, it is not necessary to have a guard, but if he should leave the premises for more than a few minutes someone should be at the house during his absence.

When Joe works for the expedition we give him his board. When he himself feels he is not working enough to justify his board he sends a refund at the end of the month. This refund should be entered into the accounts under the item food. Although at the end of the month we count the days that he has he has only one meal a day in computing the food budget, that is we meal as a full day in computing the food budget, that is we allow Savvi 5s for any day on which he has a meal.
