Dear Fro:-
Many thanks for yours of the 21st.
Since my last letter the Government has finished planting the trees in and around the site of Apollo and eventually they should add much to the appearance of the place. There are about five hundred including almonds, pines and cypresses.
In answer to your second paragraph it has been settled already for some time that Eleanor Madeira is to come to Curium after she leaves Gordion toward the end of the Spring. It was decided that it would be better all the way round if she come with Ellen Kohler who could initiate her into the work here. We consider ourselves very lucky to have such a promising new member, and she and Ellen should make a very useful team. Rodney had already told me what a pleasant person she was.
It looks as if the South Building is going to occupy about all my time this season. I want to get this one building at least in shape for publication. As a result of this seasons work it has become clear that it had a longer and more complicated history than we once supposed. It is extremely well stratified.
Our Neolithic "dig" is to begin on the 7th. It has been postponed for the last two years not by us but by the Department of Antiquities. I will keep you posted as to any interesting developement.
Last week Joe Last found a new Neolithic site. How would you like to come and dig it, the world situation, of course, permitting?
