(1) Provision of office for Caretaker and other facilities in existing building by the entrance. This requires general repair and the construction of a stair to the basement, where a workshop with water should be installed. Part of the adjoining yard should be closed off from the police area with a stone wall to provide an open air workshop xxxx space £170

(2) Completion of spiral staircase from western section of the Castle to the roof 50

(3) Provision and repair of doors and sundry minor items 60

(4) Completion of electric installation 50

(5) Repair of vaulting of the western section which is in dangerous condition 300 £630.

Other improvements have been recommended by members of the Committee, such as the paving of the floors of the west section and of the basement vaults and the substitution of wooden doors for the iron gates in the "cells". Though desirable, these are considered less urgent and the opening of the Museum need not await their completion.

For the work that must be done before the Museum opens, as set out above, the sum of £630 is required. Where is it to be found?

An Appeal.

Public funds amounting to £1000 have already been spent on, or allocated for this project and any further expenditure by Government is out of the question at present, except for the staffing, arrangement and maintenance of the Museum when it is established. The Municipality, which has already contributed £100, is not in a position to make a further contribution in 1950. It rests, then, with the citizens of Limassol to raise this sum of £630 themselves, unless the establishment of the Museum is again to be postponed indefinitely.

Reference has already been made to those who have contributed to the work carried out in 1949. Others have offered to donate objects to the Museum, in one case a whole collection. There are certainly many more who will wish to be associated with the establishemtn of the Museum, which is so long overdue and which is certain to become a real and lasting asset to the town.

If they give generously and promptly it should be possible to complete the preliminary structural work, which is already within sight of completion, and to open the Museum before the annual influx of visitors next summer.
