8th May, 1949Dear Mr. Noe:–

Thank you very much for your letter of April 8th with enclosures. I have been in touch with the Director of antiquities and he is to let me know as soon as he is ready to open the chest. He wants first to check his Gunther coin inventories against Cyprus Museum collection, and since certain sections of the latter are not classified, this will take some time. What they want to find out of course is just how the Gunther's collection might fill gaps in their own. Their final decision will depend largely, I think, on that. They are very understaffed at the Cyprus Museum and consequently the Curator, who is not a numismatist, will have to go through the lists himself in his spare time so they are not hopeful of an early decision. Please let me know if there is an urgency about the matter and if so, I'll try to rush it. Mr. Hill is here now and his advise and help in the negotiation should be most valuable.

I will keep you informed as things developed.

Very sincerely yours,

G. H. McFadden.

The Chief Curator, The American Numismatic Society, New York.
