Handwritten: Dear George,

I had not heard that young Gunther had decided to present the coin collection to the American Numismatic Society, if the greater part of it is permitted to leave the Island. [handwritten: have] I shall not be able to let you/a final decision until the Gunther coins are checked against our own collection. And since certain sections of the latter are not classified, the checking of those categories may not be possible for some time.

However it is probably the Cypriot series which will interest the Society most and regarding these Dikaios hopes to be able to report, in the course of the summer, what there is among the Gunther coins that the Museum lacks. We hope to get our Ptolemaic coins finally catalogued next winter and when that is done the Gunther specimens can be checked against them. Checking of some of the other series, the less important, I think, may not be possible till next year.

May I suggest that before you leave this summer you open the case and investigate the condition of the coins, as to which I am a little anxious? We might do this together.

Yours
