CURIUM EXCAVATIONS EPISKOPI, LIMASSOL CYPRUS
before operations could very well begin.
It would be much appreciated if you would send the balance of the $5,000.00, after deducting the Youngs' scholarship, to the Ottoman Bank at Limassol with instructions that it be deposited to the credit of Curium Excavations. [handwritten: T]hanks very much for arranging about the two allotments.
We all hope very much that you will be able to arrange to pay us a visit here in the near future. I particularly hope that it will be at a time when Dr. Hill is here. [handwritten: H]e is planning to be with us until the rains begin [handwritten: a]round [handwritten: C]hristmas and is planning to return to [handwritten: C]urium again early in the spring. Once you have visited [handwritten: C]urium I think you will have a much clearer idea of our site and of some of the problems confronting us here. We are progressing much more rapidly on the sanctuary of Apollo than I could have believed would have been possible a few weeks ago, and I think that by the time you arrive you will be pleased by the amount we may have been fortunate enough to accomplish in a short time. [handwritten: L]ast week we found a good Roman copy in marble of what appears to be a faithful copy of the Apollo Sauroktonos of Praxiteles. Only one Greek original has come down to us from his hand and even this is disputed by some, but we will be writing Pete about this and other finds in due course.
