CURIUM EXCAVATIONS EPISKOPI, LIMASSOL CYPRUS
uildings on the site of the sanctuary of Apollo, which have already been largely cleared, such as the South Building, ing, and Temples A and B. Pete will tell you about these. It was not intended to clear the sanctuary as a whole, or the Hellenistic cemetery, or the site of the basilica on the bluff of Curium. This would fall under my program 2 (see my letter of June 4th). Expenses last year amounted to $12,664.63. I have excluded from this figure my traveling expenses of $1,043.00, although it appeared in the accounts, as I usually make a special contribution in addition to my commitments to cover this item. This year in order to to carry out our program of clearing the sanctuary including the main street and the buildinga along it will require at least an additional thousand dollars for every month of excavation, bringing the budget to about $20,000.00. The fourth and fifth years of the overall program will probably find the budget somewhat reduced. I hope this will serve to answer in brief the main points raised in your letter. I wrote Pete Daniel last month and have a very nice letter from him. Both Mr. Hill and I are writing him again and will try to keep him well informed as to our activities. I began at the Hellenistic cemetery only to avoid loseing valuable time, as Mr. Hill was particularly anxious to be here before work began at Apollo. During this brief interval of a little over two weeks, Apollo was not neglected, however, and our draughtsman drew all the larger stones appearing in the debris over the main street, a job which had to be done
