7 October 1947Dear Mrs. Godfrey,
You asked me to advise you before I left about the Youngs' joint fellowship. I have discussed the matter with them and they say that they would prefer $3,200.00 year to have the entire amount of their accounts at the Springfield deposited to the credit of their Trust Company, 127 State Street, of this amount Safe Deposit and Trust Company, 127 State Street, of this amount Massachusetts. I suggested and Prof. Rainey that half of this amount might be deposited as soon as funds are available, and that the balance be deposited the first of the new year, if this procedure meets with your approval.
I had a stop over at Paris for a few days to see my sister Caroline and my brother Billy who was there with Josie on a business trip. Billy had just been to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Poland and Czekoslovakia and had a most interesting time. Caroline is probably home by now as she and Johnnie are giving a party there for young Cibie at Bloomfield. Emily is giving another party this Fall so the white elephant is being useful. Paris was hot and expensive and it was like reaching a northern seaside summer resort at Athens in comparison.
