10 June 1947Prof. John Franklin Daniel, The University Museum, Philadelphia.

Dear Pete,

Peter Megaw tells me he has received a cable from you expressing dissatisfaction with the division of finds. I was somewhat surprised as we knew nothing about it here. I think it might have been more appropriate if you had sent your communication through Mr. Hill, as the Museum's representative, or through the senior member here in his absence, as we're supposed to be handling this matter for you. I'm terribly sorry you were disappointed about the results. We did the best we could acting on your memorandum. It was a great shame you couldn't be present to undertake the division yourself. Peter Megaw tells me he is sending you a copy of his letter confirming the division as far as his horewith. I'm not enclosing one own requirements permit, but I doubt very much if he would ever allow us to have both tombs 25 and 26. We have, as you know from Mr. Hill, tomb 59 minus the terracotta tripod. These are the three tombs you valued most according to your memorandum, and of these we have two. I will tell you all about it when I come home next week.

Looking forward to seeing you soon,
