CURIUM EXCAVATIONS EPISKOPI, LIMASSOL CYPRUS

7 January, 1947The Director, The University Museum, Philadelphia.

Dear Mrs. Godfrey,

Thank you very much for your letter of December 12th with the enclosed recapitulation of the Museum's and my contributions to Curium Excavations for the current and past year.

With reference to my letter of July 16th, the cheque I enclosed therein for the amount of $1,000.00 was intended, as Mr. Madeira supposed, for Curium Excavations, but you are quite right in believing that it was my intention to make a contribution to the Museum for purposes outside our own classical section. I think I told you that I had done this in the past upon several occasions, not, of course, as a part of any agreement, but in my interest in helping the director who like [handwritten: receiving for a change a gift] for a change a gift without the usual restricting labels tacked on to them. At that time [handwritten: labor] labor in this island was so cheap that I could well afford to make such a gift to the Museum without in any way affecting the extent of my contributions to Curium Excavations. I did, however, express my intention to you last year of making a gift to the Museum for some purpose outside our own field, a thing which I'd like very much continue doing from time to time when I can afford it.
