Dear Peter,
Many thanks for your letter of July 3rd. I hope you'll excuse the slight delay in answering it. I have just received a reply to my letter from the University Museum regarding the neolithic site, and their answer, I fear, is not over encouraging. They write that in view of the possibility of another dig in the classical field elsewhere, that they would rather let the thing slide for the present. I think they would feel that in order to justify a single season's dig there should be a good chance of results making a substantial contribution to Cypriot Archeology. Your trial dig might well give the indication they require, but I think we'll have to have their intention made clear that if results prove encouraging they'll be prepared to undertake a proper dig. Could you give me a rough idea of what a three months campaign would cost at the present time on the scale envisaged by Mr. Dikaios. Much might depend
